Book Title: Taking Risks
Subtitle: Lola Frost works, Works 1997 - 2014
Book Description: This Taking Risks exhibition is poised between two bodies of work titled Coming Alive (1997-2013) and South (2013). The former might be characterised as a vertical emergence from an interior psychic depth, and the latter as a horizontal expansion toward the unknowable ‘flesh’ of the world.
Lola Frost’s Leverhulme Kings College London artist’s residency in the Department of War Studies is committed to exploring the idea and practice of productive risk and commences with the exhibition titled Taking Risks.
This exhibition of paintings will be on show in Somerset House East Wing (basement level -2, Learning Centre rooms), Strand, from the 7th to the 25th October 2014.
A collaborative project between Lola Frost and academics in the Department of War Studies is to be inaugurated in this exhibition with a conversation between the artist and Dr Claudia Aradau on the topic of Aesthetic Risk and Security Risk on the 22nd October at 5.30pm. This conversational forum, which extends from October 2014 to February 2015, will include a discussion with Prof Thomas Rid on Cybernetic Risk and Aesthetic Free Play on the 5th November 2014 and with Professor Ned Lebow on the topic of Underrating Risk? on the 3rd December 2014.
